What does Hodl mean?

Hodl – holding a Cryptocurrency rather than selling it

Hodl (/ˈhɒdəl/ HOD-əl; often written HODL) is one of the original crypto-jargon terms. First said in 2013, HODL is a slang term in the crypto community for holding a cryptocurrency, rather than selling it.

I AM HODLING

The misspelling of the term “hold” has its origins from a drunken post, with plenty of strong language … that’s a warning before clicking the link to read the post 😉 in this Bitcoin Forum thread titled I AM HODLING.

A Bitcoin trader/investor, going by the handle “GameKyuubi”, misspelled his intent to hold onto his profits, rather than sell.

The term has now become synonymous with the blockchain industry and cryptocurrency community.
